Winter Weather Event

December 24, 2009

A strong storm system moved towards Oklahoma early December 24th. As the system approached, it pulled Arctic air southward across the state. Rain changed briefly to freezing rain, putting a layer of ice on some roadways. Sleet occurred across central and much of eastern Oklahoma before changing to all snow. Snowfall accumulations of 4-6 inches have been common with amounts to 10 inches in some areas. Travel has been impossible across much of central Oklahoma during the event as all Interstates in Oklahoma City closed for a period of time.
