Emergencies & Disasters

OEM is responsible for developing and maintaining the State's ability to effectively respond to a wide variety of threats. During an emergency, OEM coordinates State emergency operations such as: activation of disaster reservists, voluntary organization staff, and other appropriate state agency personnel, as well as monitoring events, evaluating the potential for a State declared emergency and the need for Federal emergency and disaster assistance. As the governor's emergency management organization, OEM may activate the State Emergency Operations Center to better coordinate the delivery of resources. Additionally, the department works to provide recovery assistance to individuals and communities until services return to normal.
