White House Approves Gov. Fallin’s Request for Disaster Assistance

Oklahoma City – The White House today approved Gov. Mary Fallin’s request for federal disaster assistance in Atoka County related to the Tushka Tornado.

The announcement means individuals and business owners impacted by the April 14th tornado may now qualify for assistance with housing repairs or temporary housing. U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loans for individuals and businesses to repair or replace damaged property, disaster unemployment assistance, and grants for serious needs and necessary disaster expenses not met by other programs, are also available under the declaration.

To apply for disaster assistance, individuals and business owners in Atoka County may call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or go online at www.disasterassistance.gov.

The EF-3 tornado is blamed for two deaths and 43 injuries. The twister also damaged 237 homes and businesses, destroying 149 of them.

Emergency management officials continue to gather information to request public assistance for infrastructure repairs and response costs in impacted counties.
