Northwest and North-Central Oklahoma Flooding
Hurricane Ike made landfall at Galveston, Texas, Saturday September 13, 2008. As Ike approached the coast, the State of Oklahoma coordinated with Texas regarding evacuees. While Oklahoma was not needed for pre-landfall evacuees, the state stands ready to assist Texas with any needs.
On Friday September 12, 2008, widespread rainfall occurred across northwest and north-central Oklahoma. This activity was as associated with deep moisture from Lowell (Pacific Ocean tropical system) and a frontal system moving in from the north. These combined to produce excessive rainfall with 11.77 inches measured in Fairview, Oklahoma.
