Fine Arts

Welcome to Oklahoma PK-12 Fine Arts! This home page includes information for all arts discipline areas (dance, drama/theatre, media arts, music, and visual arts) and for administrators, parents, community members, etc.

Oklahoma Academic Standards for Fine Arts

The new Oklahoma Academic Standards for Fine Arts (OAS-Fine Arts) were adopted in May of 2023.

Fine Arts Requirements

School districts shall develop and implement curriculum, courses, and instruction in order to ensure that students meet the skills and competencies as set forth in this section and in the subject matter standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Students, therefore, shall study social studies, literature, languages, the arts, mathematics, and science (70 O.S. 11-103.6).

The fine arts include dance, drama/theatre, media arts, music, and visual arts. Although there is no fine arts assessment, state law mandates access to a PK-12 fine arts education. For more information on funding, course codes, requirements, certification, etc., see the table below.

Fine Arts TLE Guidance

The following guidance is intended to support Oklahoma administrators in the evaluation of fine arts educators. It is particularly useful for administrators who may not have a background in the arts, providing a framework for effectively assessing educators across all fine arts disciplines. This guidance outlines best practices specific to dance, drama/theatre, music, and visual arts instruction. It may also be adapted for media arts educators by referencing elements from both the visual arts and drama/theatre sections.

Note: For ease of use, printing the PDFs is recommended. When printed double-sided, the evaluation rubric and corresponding arts-specific guidance will align on facing pages—ideal for use in a binder or stapled packet.
