Data Governance

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) Data Governance board facilitates the effective management of data, including establishing and reviewing agency processes and policies to ensure data accessibility, quality, integrity, security, and privacy.

Goals of OSDE's Data Governance Program

  1. Improve data accessibility to key stakeholders, including the OSDE staff and school districts, to guide important decision making to better serve Oklahoma students.  
  2. Ensure meaningful, timely, high-quality data are collected for required state and federal reporting.  
  3. Create a durable, proactive, and collective agency-wide culture that embraces data-based decision making.   
  4. Craft and implement policies, processes, and documentation that appropriately secure and use educational data, while also improving consistency and transparency in the OSDE’s data, privacy, and security practices.  

OSDE Data Governance Board

The OSDE Data Governance Board (DGB) and its members are the OSDE’s vital resource in data management and a driving force in promoting data accessibility, integrity, literacy, privacy, quality, and security.  The Board is composed of key data owners from divisions across the OSDE and meets on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss agency data management and decision-making.   

Data Governance Board Goals

  1. Document the OSDE data management landscape and make it accessible for internal and external education stakeholders
  2. Create foundational policies, procedures, and documentation
  3. Improve the internal data sharing process
  4. Improve the external data sharing process
  5. Build out data resources for OSDE staff, school districts, and the public
  6. Improve data quality
