Emergency Department Initiative

The OHCA is committed to making continued improvements in reducing the rate of non-emergent ED utilization by its members.  Through the SoonerCare Choice Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) program, the OHCA partners with PCMH providers to ensure members receive access to appropriate preventive and primary care services. 

Access to the right care at the right time in the right place is critical. 

The OHCA rewards PCMH providers efforts in addressing preventable ED visits thru the quarterly SoonerExcel pay for performance incentive. $1,000,000 per year is dedicated to the pay for performance SoonerExcel ED Utilization Initiative.

2022 ED Utilization education efforts will target:

• Appropriate level of care and proper ED utilization
  
• Care coordination and accessible community resources
• OHCA available reports and resources such as the Emergency Room Utilization Panel Member Report and the Member Initial Visit Report.  Guidance on leveraging these reports to target member outreach and engagement.
