Waivers
A waiver allows the state to “waive” certain federal rules in order to offer optional services and/or expand eligibility to a group of individuals that would not otherwise qualify for Medicaid. A waiver also allows the state to research, test and evaluate new methods for health care service delivery and payment. Waivers operate under the oversight of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
