APA WF # 21-44 Independent Clinical Psychologist Services for Adults

The proposed revisions update policy to reflect that Medicaid adults can now access services provided by licensed clinical psychologists who bill independently and are practicing within state scope of practice. Services provided by independently contracted clinical psychologists were previously a State Plan benefit only available to children. These proposed changes were a collaboration between the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) and the Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS).

Miriam Boukikaz:

This would be ideal for our adult patients to have access to psychologists in an office setting vs a facility setting. Patients are more likely to visit somewhere they are familiar with. This would be huge for our population of chronic pain patients using a multidisciplinary approach to go along with the updated recommendations from OHCA regarding Alternative Treatments for Pain Management.

Jennifer Ladd:

I agree with the proposed change. I think that it should be expanded to include Independent Licensed Counselors, who currently can also only serve children. As OHCA pays them less than agencies, this would both save OHCA money and provide more choice for Medicaid members.

Michaela Bishop:

Would request that the language in (d) on page 8 - "All providers participating in the Home and Community Based Waiver Services for the intellectually disabled program.."  be reworded to use people first language, something like "All providers participating in the Home and Community Based Waiver Services program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities......
