OHCA Uncovers, Quickly Addresses Foreign Organized Medicaid Fraud Ring

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Health Care Authority has taken action to address a recently uncovered international organized crime ring that has fraudulently registered thousands of Oklahomans for Medicaid.

“States across the nation are battling the rising rates of fraudulent activity from foreign crime syndicates,” said OHCA interim director Aaron Morris. “Our managed care organizations quickly brought this to our attention and worked in good faith to ensure those enrolled in their programs were there appropriately.”

Oklahoma’s managed care partners became aware of the situation and quickly notified OHCA officials. OHCA acted to begin disenrolling fraudulently enrolled individuals and is working with Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) to ensure the state is in compliance with all federal regulations.

“We caught the problem early enough to minimize fraudulent usage and ensure there was no cost to taxpayers,” continued Morris. “We are continuing to work with state and federal partners to quickly address this situation and tighten our vetting processes to ensure that all Medicaid enrollees are actually eligible for these services.”

This is an ongoing investigation. Criminal activity will be referred to the proper state and federal authorities.
