SoonerSelect Celebrates One Year of Transforming Health Care for Oklahomans

Oklahoma City, OK – One year after launching, SoonerSelect is delivering positive results for members and providers across the state. From increased access to care to innovative value-added benefits, SoonerSelect has enhanced health outcomes for thousands of Oklahomans.

“SoonerSelect is delivering real results for Oklahomans,” said Governor J. Kevin Stitt. “By modernizing Medicaid and focusing on proactive, patient-centered care, we are improving health outcomes while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

Strengthening Health Care Access and Value

During the past year, more than 612,000 SoonerSelect members have taken advantage of a variety of value-added benefits designed to support overall health and wellness. Some of the positive impacts include:

  • Financial assistance through reward dollars. Over 151,400 members earned more than $2.1 million for completing health activities, helping pay for groceries, rent, childcare and more.
  • Promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Members used their free YMCA memberships more than 20,684 times.
  • Enhanced access to dental care through language assistance, increased awareness and personalized case management support.
  • Address food insecurity with more than $259,000 provided in Food Rx vouchers for nutritious meals.
  • Connecting students with more than 8,000 hours of tutoring provided to students at risk of not meeting academic standards.

Providers across Oklahoma have also benefited from the program, with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority distributing over $1.2 billion in supplemental hospital payments and more than $51 million in incentive payments to physicians, behavioral health practitioners and other health care providers through the new SoonerSelect directed payment programs. An additional $30 million is set to be distributed through the program in April. Further, more than 13 million claims have been paid as of March 16, with an average payment timeline of six days to ensure members receive timely high-quality care.

Advancing Primary Care for Long-Term Impact

A key focus of SoonerSelect is strengthening primary care services to improve long-term health outcomes. OHCA has developed a data-driven primary care methodology that prioritizes preventive care and ensures sustainable investment in primary care providers. This approach ensures that each SoonerSelect contracted entity progressively increases its primary care spending, reaching a required minimum of 11% of its medical spend on primary care services within four years.

“Oklahomans deserve access to quality health care, and in just one year, SoonerSelect has supported this mission by ensuring patients have access to the right providers, community partners and resources.” said Ellen Buettner, OHCA Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health and Mental Health Advisor. “This person-centered approach equips Oklahomans to make the best choices for their families, leading to a lifetime of healthy living.”

As SoonerSelect enters its second year, OHCA remains committed to refining and enhancing the program to better serve Oklahoma families. Learn more about SoonerSelect at here.
