Case appointed to second term with OHCA Board

Oklahoma City - Tanya Case, of Duncan, was recently appointed to a second four-year term on the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) Board of Directors.  She was first appointed in 2014 by former Speaker of the House Jeff Hickman and most recently by Charles McCall, current Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Tanya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the health care field to our board. We are certainly appreciative of her commitment and willingness to continue to work toward improving health care for Oklahomans,” said OHCA CEO Becky Pasternik-Ikard.

As one of the seven OHCA board members, Case oversees the agency that is responsible for the care and well-being of more than 1 million Oklahomans each year including children, pregnant women, individuals with disabilities and seniors. Additionally, she is responsible for the oversight of a more than $5 billion budget to accomplish the mission of the agency to responsibly purchase health care in the most efficient and comprehensive manner possible.

Case worked in health care in Oklahoma for 35 years with most of those years spent in executive leadership positions of health plans. She retired in November 2015 as the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Temporary High Risk Pool (OTHRP) which was Oklahoma’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) created by the Affordable Care Act in March 2010. During her tenure with OTHRP, Case served on the board of directors of the National Association of State Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans (NASCHIP), serving as Chairman from 2014-15.

She has also served as the Director of the Oklahoma Office of Rural Health, Oklahoma State Department of Health (OKC); the Director of First Health West, a physician/hospital network (Lawton); the Director of Prime Advantage, a HMO owned and operated by Comanche County Hospital Authority which served as a commercial and Medicaid HMO; and the Executive Director of Lawton Community Health Center.

Her many awards and accomplishments include being named among the state’s “50 Making a Difference” by The Journal Record in 2014 and again in 2015. The honor recognizes Oklahoma women for their leadership in business and philanthropy.  Also in 2015, Case was recognized as one of 18 women nationally to be named as an inaugural recipient of the Alpha Chi Omega Real. Strong. Women. of Distinction Award. This award recognizes Alpha Chi Omegas who are difference makers, risk takers and dream chasers making a positive impact on their own lives and in their communities.  In addition, Case is a graduate of Leadership Duncan, Class VI, and Leadership Oklahoma, Class III.

An active member in the communities of Lawton and Duncan, Case currently serves on the board of directors of the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Duncan Public Library. She is an active member of P.E.O., First United Methodist Church of Duncan, and United Methodist Women (UMW) serving as Treasurer of the Oklahoma Conference of UMW.

Case holds a BS from the University of New Mexico and a MS from the OU Health Sciences Center.

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) administers two health programs for the state. The first is SoonerCare, Oklahoma’s Medicaid program. SoonerCare works to improve the health of qualified Oklahomans by ensuring that medically necessary benefits and services are available. Qualifying Oklahomans include certain low-income children, seniors, the disabled, those being treated for breast or cervical cancer and those seeking family planning services. The second program OHCA operates is Insure Oklahoma, which assists qualifying adults and small business employees in obtaining health care coverage for themselves and their families. Currently, there are 815,069 Oklahomans enrolled in OHCA’s programs. The agency contracts with a network of 47,073 providers. For more information, visit www.okhca.org or www.insureoklahoma.org.
