Mother-daughter teaching duo leverages immersive technology to train future health professionals
LouAnn Lively and her daughter, Blaklyn Geiger, each left a health care profession for the classroom, although their forays into teaching were separated by two decades.
Now, they teach health science classes at Durant High School using the newest generation of anatomy and physiology teaching tools: Anatomage tables, which allow users to see a 3D replica of a human body, including bones, muscles and organs.
Durant High School boasts six, four-person teams that compete in Anatomage tournaments; the best of the teams vie for a spot at nationals.

Oklahoma TSA brings home wins, national officer from conference
Oklahoma Technology Student Association members brought home three membership awards, a national officer, nine Gold Achievement Awards and more than 40 other awards from the 47th National TSA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Oklahoma students competed against more than 10,000 students from across the country and received three superlative membership awards: Most Middle School Chapters, Most Middle School Members and Most Chapters Overall.
Lizzie Grounds, Broken Arrow High School, was elected national TSA vice president.

Teaching to Teach Apprenticeship Program applications available
Applications for the Teaching to Teach Apprenticeship Program for the 2025 fall semester are open. Applications are due Aug. 5.
The program, a partnership between Oklahoma CareerTech and the Regional University System of Oklahoma, will provide eligible participants with scholarships of up to $10,000 per semester. Apprentices can participate during a single semester or in both fall and spring semesters.
They will complete education training from one of six regional universities – East Central, Northeastern State, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and the University of Central Oklahoma – and complete on-the-job training under a mentor at a school district or early learning center.
Applicants must be employed full- or part-time at an Oklahoma school district or early learning center and pursuing teacher certification through the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Northeast Tech names deputy superintendent
Northeast Technology Center recently named Ravonda Higgins deputy superintendent.
Higgins previously served as assistant superintendent and campus director at Northeast Tech’s Afton campus. She served as deputy superintendent-elect for the past six months.
She began her new position July 1, replacing Derek Beller, who became superintendent on that day.

Pioneer Tech hosts Youth Firefighter Academy
Students entering eighth through 10th grades got a hands-on introduction to firefighting and emergency services at Pioneer Technology Center’s Youth Firefighter Academy.
They learned about fire dynamics, safety protocols and search and rescue operations and participated in team-based simulations.
