Student Services
The Student Services Team and Instructors collaborate to ensure equitable access for all offenders and to also ensure that prospective students are eligible and placed in the training program that fits his/her needs.
Enrollment
- Once the determination is made that an offender is to attend a Skills Centers program, an enrollment application and Life Success Plan are completed by the Instructor and the prospective student is either immediately enrolled or placed on the waiting list. As most programs are open entry/open exit and competency based, enrollment occurs continuously.
Post-Release
- Once a student discharges his/her sentence, Transition Coordinators leverage state and local resources to provide a continuation of services to Skills Centers graduates.
Accessible resources to graduates may include:
- Housing
- Transportation
- Identification documents
- Food
- Clothing
- Medical, dental, vision
- Mental health
- Legal resources
- Guidance
Upon release, Employment Coordinators are responsible for job placement assistance. Employment Coordinators meet with each student prior to release to assist with resumes, interviewing skills, and job search strategies. Coordinators also develop students' employability skills through employment workshops and one-on-one career counseling.
Along with Instructors, Transition/Employment Coordinators regularly visit with business and industry to ascertain employer needs, attend job fairs, conduct online job searches, and work closely with job connection centers and Work Force Oklahoma to ensure graduates are well versed in current employment trends.
