Oklahoma CareerTech high school students graduate aircraft maintenance summer internship
A crop of 10 Putnam City aviation students recently graduated from a summer aircraft maintenance internship at AAR Airframe MRO.
The internship was co-sponsored by Oklahoma CareerTech, Express Employment Professionals, AAR Airframe MRO and their related nonprofit curriculum provider Choose Aerospace.
It dovetails with maintenance training the students received throughout the regular high school academic year.
More than a summer job, the internship sets students on course to fill high-earning, in-demand jobs after graduating high school.

The Honorary American FFA Degree is an opportunity to recognize those who have gone beyond valuable daily contributions to make an extraordinary long-term difference in the lives of students, inspiring confidence in a new generation of agriculturists.
Aviation industry publication highlights CareerTech
Avionics News, a publication of the Aircraft Electronics Association, shone a spotlight on aviation technology training in Oklahoma in its August issue.
Oklahoma CareerTech STEM Division Manager Tonja Norwood talked to the magazine about the part the state agency plays in training aviation technicians.
“We’re working hard to provide exposure to all of the careers in aerospace, and we’re doing it sooner,” Norwood told the magazine.
She explained the Choose Aerospace curriculum, which is available to schools in the CareerTech system at no cost to the schools or the students, along with the AOPA You Can Fly program.

NOC, tech centers partner for truck driver training
Central Technology Center, Autry Technology Center and Northern Oklahoma College are working together to offer truck driver training in Enid.
Central Tech is providing the truck driver training, which will be done at Autry Tech. Students in the program will be able to live in NOC student housing.
“Our partnership with Autry Technology Center and Northern Oklahoma College in Enid is a game-changer for our truck driver training program. By providing housing though NOC, we are removing barriers and creating more opportunities for students to achieve their CDL certification,” said John Thorpe, Central Tech truck driver training director.
