Oklahoma FFA brings home honors from national convention

Oklahoma FFA returned from the 97th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis with eight national champions, one national runner-up, 18 other placements, 21 gold emblem individual awards and a national officer nominating committee member.

The National FFA Convention celebrates FFA members from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The convention includes individual award and degree recognition, chapter award recognition, official delegate business and national officer elections.

“As Oklahoma FFA members return from the 97th National FFA Convention, we are incredibly proud of their dedication and success on the national stage,” said Trevor Lucas, state FFA executive secretary. “Their accomplishments highlight the exceptional teaching and learning happening in agricultural education classrooms across the state, where students are building skills, knowledge and leadership that will benefit their futures and our communities.”

Metro Tech plans Native American Cultural Event

Metro Technology Centers is inviting the community to attend its Native American Cultural Event on Nov. 8 at its Springlake Conference Center.

The free event will include storytelling, dance and vocal performances and vendors offering handcrafted Native American products.

Francis Tuttle Tech program tackles skilled trades shortage

A new Francis Tuttle Technology Center flexible training program aims to help fill workforce shortages quickly. The Journal Record highlighted the program recently.

The classes, which are in the evening, cover skills for HVAC technicians and electricians and are offered in sections so students can start work with the skills they’ve already learning while continuing to learn more, program developer Carl McPherson told the newspaper.

The tech center hopes to add a plumbing program as well in 2025 or 2026, he said.

Red River Tech celebrates 50 classes of practical nursing students

Red River Technology Center recently celebrated its 50th class of nursing students to be accepted into its practical nursing program.

RRTC’s program began in 1974, and the first 21 students graduated in 1976. Since then, 830 students have graduated from the program.
