Tech center enrollment expected to rebound

Enrollment in Oklahoma CareerTech’s 29 technology centers, which are vital to educating skilled workers, is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels, Oklahoma CareerTech State Director Brent Haken told The Oklahoman.

“We play the most integral role in making sure the workforce is there,” Haken told the newspaper. “When we can’t get the students the training they need, that’s when the whole workforce system suffers.”

CareerTech Conversations talks about BMITE

Oklahoma CareerTech Conversations sat down with Business, Marketing and Information Technology Education Program Manager Mark Burch recently.

Burch talked about the BMITE division of Oklahoma CareerTech, which provides leadership and support to more than 430 programs across the state. His division also manages Business Professionals of America and DECA, the co-curricular CareerTech student organizations affiliated with BMITE.

26 graduate from 2022-23 TechCENT$

Twenty-six people from technology centers and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education graduated from TechCENT$ this year.

TechCENT$ is a training program for current or potential technology center financial services staff. It provides them with opportunities to learn about tech center financial process and systems and allows them to develop a network for sharing best practices with colleagues across the state.

This year’s program was offered in a combination of in-person and virtual sessions. Topics included the technology center funding formula, school law, board policy and ethics, flexible benefits allowance and the cost per program report.

 

34 graduate from 2022-23 BISCP

Thirty-four Oklahoma CareerTech coordinators from technology centers across the state recently graduated from the 2022-23 Business and Industry Services Certification Program.

Participants had the opportunity to visit four different technology centers: Meridian Tech, High Plains Tech, Moore Norman Tech and Pontotoc Tech. They participated in professional development sessions, hands-on activities and industry tours.

BISCP is facilitated by Oklahoma CareerTech Regional Coordinators Lori Laufer and Patrick Clanin.

 

Pontotoc Tech launches Lineworker Academy

Pontotoc Technology Center has announced a new Lineworker Academy for fall 2023.

“Coordinating with local employers has been key in developing this program. We want to make sure the skill development and knowledge our students receive is exactly what employers are looking for,” said Jim Lawson, PTC BIS coordinator. “We know there’s a big need in our area and across the country for these skills. So we’re confident graduates of the program will have every opportunity to enjoy well-paying careers.”
