Apprenticeship Oklahoma

What Is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is a proven, industry-driven approach to workforce development that combines paid, hands-on work experience with classroom instruction. Apprentices can earn while they learn, developing job-ready skills and gaining credentials that lead to high quality careers.

Two Types of Apprenticeships in Oklahoma

Oklahoma offers two apprenticeship pathways, each designed to meet different needs and goals.

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

Offered in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, RAPs are nationally recognized programs for approved occupations. They are highly customizable, require a longer time commitment, and result in a portable industry credential.

Key Features:

  • Credential: U.S. DOL Certificate (nationally recognized)
  • Minimum Requirements: 2,000+ hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL) and 144+ hours of Related Instruction (RI)
  • Flexibility: Customizable program structure and instruction providers

CareerTech Apprenticeship (CTA)

Designed and approved by Oklahoma CareerTech, CTAs offer a flexible and faster path for training talent in high-need occupations. These programs are ideal for employers looking to build skills internally or develop a local talent pool while maintaining high standards of education and training.

Key Features:

  • Credential: CareerTech Certificate
  • Minimum Requirements: 600+ hours (minimum 85% OJL/15% RI)
  • Instruction: Delivered through CareerTech Technology Centers
