APA WF 23-17 Implement Changes to the Health Information Exchange (HIE)
The proposed policy changes are currently in effect as Emergency Rules and must be promulgated as Permanent Rules. The proposed policy was presented at the Tribal Consultation held on July 5, 2023, and to the Medical Advisory Committee on July 13, 2023. Additionally, this proposal will be presented at a Public Hearing scheduled for January 8, 2024 and is scheduled to be presented as Permanent Rules to the OHCA Board of Directors on January 17, 2024.

I feel strongly a statewide HIE is essential to move forward healthcare in Oklahoma and can reduce costs and improve patient safety. However, it should not be on the individual provider or practice to bear this cost and should be covered fully by grant funding or by the state and was an oversight in the initial negotiations. If this grant funding covers all of these costs, then this makes sense. If not, then we are still where we started and will receive pushback from individual groups unless covered.

Please note that this assistance only covers the connection fees. The monthly subscription fees will be paid by the organization/provider.
