Oklahoma Health Care Authority Receives CMS Approval for Hospital Payments

Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma Health Care Authority received federal approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue hospital payment initiatives through a new authority. The new authority is a state directed payment under the Medicaid managed care service delivery contracts.

This change preserves hospital supplemental payments that hospitals were receiving through the previous fee-for-service delivery model. The proposal was received by CMS on Dec. 1, 2020 and approved on March 31, 2021.

“I am thankful our CMS partners acted swiftly to approve this change. This will continue the vital supplemental payments to our Oklahoma hospitals once Oklahoma transitions to a managed care delivery model,” said OHCA CEO Kevin Corbett.

The approved delivery system and provider payment initiatives (state directed payment) include hospitals currently participating in the Supplemental Hospital Offset Payment Program (SHOPP) and Level 1 trauma hospitals for the rating period covering October 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022. There was no additional state funding needed for this change.
