CareerTech grant helps fund aviation program at Stillwater High School
How many high school students get to say they built a plane from scratch?
Some Stillwater High School students will get to make that boast, thanks to an innovative Perkins grant administered through Oklahoma CareerTech.
The school district submitted a request last spring for a Perkins innovative grant to fund participation in Tango Flight Inc., a nonprofit organization created to get students interested in aviation engineering and maintenance.
Schools pay upfront for the first plane kit, said Jessica Sigle, Stillwater High School aviation teacher. When it is complete, Tango Flight sells it and provides another one to the school, she said.
“The program begets itself,” she said. “They sell the aircraft, and it pays for the next one.”

Tulsa Tech students honor 9/11 anniversary
Tulsa Technology Center students commemorated the 9/11 anniversary in two ways.
At the Broken Arrow campus, students participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb; each student carried the name of a first responder who died on 9/11.
Tulsa Tech masonry students also worked together to design and build a wall to honor the lives of individuals who died in the terrorist attack. This is the 23rd year Tulsa Tech students have started their year with the memorial project.

Canadian Valley Tech students honor 9/11 first responders
Canadian Valley Technology students enrolled in the afternoon criminal justice program joined students enrolled in the firefighter program on multiple trips up and down the steps of the school’s new three-story fire tower on Friday.
The walk honors first responders who risked their lives entering the buildings in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.
Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives during the attacks, including more than 400 public service members.
Mid-America Tech builds pathways to opportunity
Mid-America Technology Center has joined a partnership to create career pathways for women at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center.
MATC administers written examinations for participants in the Re-entry Investment/Student Education Program Inc., which provides cosmetology, barbering and master instructor training at Mabel Bassett.
Amanda Cummings, MATC program director, recently administered the first round of tests.
“You see women who are doing the work to accomplish something meaningful for themselves. Being able to provide one piece of that opportunity is a powerful reminder of what CareerTech is about,” she told The Newcastle Pacer.
