Oklahoma TSA wins awards at national conference

Oklahoma Technology Student Association members won eight national championships, eight second place and 10 third place finishes and 21 Gold Achievement Awards at the National TSA Conference in Washington, D.C., and National Harbor, Maryland.

Oklahoma was recognized as one of only five states to achieve its Forward to Fifty membership goal for the 2025-26 school year, helping National TSA move closer to its goal of 3,000 chapters or 500,000 members by the CareerTech student organization’s 50th anniversary in 2028.

Oklahoma TSA took 309 students and 58 advisers, along with additional parents and guests, to the conference.

CareerTech employee named to ‘Most Influential Women’

Susie McEachern-Lauer, a health science education program specialist at Oklahoma CareerTech, has been selected to be featured in “Most Influential Women,” a national publication and platform dedicated to celebrating trailblazing women who are shaping industries, driving innovation and making an impact.

In her personal mission statement, McEachern-Lauer wrote that her “aspiration is to redefine what it means to be an influencer -- one grounded in trustworthiness, relatability, kindness and authenticity.”

She wrote an article for the publication that is published on the Influential Women website, which also includes a page about McEachern-Lauer and a video.

 

Metro Tech hosts Fraud Prevention Conference

Metro Technology Centers is hosting its Fraud Prevention Conference this month.

The conference, which is free and open to the public, will be July 15-17 at Metro Tech’s Springlake Campus. Registrants may also attend virtually or at a remote host site: First National Bank of Midwest City, Meridian Technology Center South Campus in Guthrie, USE Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma City, Indian Capital Technology Center’s Muskogee Campus and Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City.

Metro Tech is presenting the conference in partnership with the Oklahoma Insurance Department, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the Oklahoma Department of Securities.

Speakers will discuss the latest trends, emerging threats and strategies to protect yourself, your family and your finances.

Francis Tuttle students develop storm prep app

Two Francis Tuttle Technology Center students represented Oklahoma’s Fifth District at the 2026 #HouseOfCode in Washington, D.C., with an app designed to help people prepare for severe weather.

Jiya Chopra and Kirthika Duggisetty, who attend Deer Creek High School and are Technology Student Association members, created the app for the 2025 Congressional App Challenge and were chosen to present in a science fair at #HouseOfCode this year. Chopra was a student in Francis Tuttle’s Engineering Academy, and Duggisetty attended the tech center’s Computer Science Academy.

The app uses data from the National Weather Service and FEMA to provide alerts, creates customized emergency checklists and gives information on nearby hospitals, pharmacies and shelters.
