Western Tech names new superintendent
Western Technology Center has named Jay Edelen as its new superintendent, as of July 1.
Edelen, who will be Western Tech’s seventh superintendent, has spent 26 years in education. He began as a science teacher and coach in Kingfisher. He served as a principal in Medford Public Schools and as superintendent at Pioneer Public Schools and Arapaho-Butler Public Schools, where he has been for 12 years.
“I’ve seen the impact on students who have attended WTC. My goal has always been to help prepare students to be productive members of society. And now with CareerTech, that goal continues as we bridge academics with workforce readiness.,” he said.

10th class graduates from CareerTech TechCENT$
Thirty-one people graduated last week from Oklahoma CareerTech’s 10th TechCENT$ class in a session at Mid-America Technology Center.
TechCENT$ is a training program for current or potential technology center financial services staff. It provides them with opportunities to learn about tech center financial processes and systems and allows them to develop a network for sharing best practices with colleagues across the state.
Graduates came from tech centers across Oklahoma and from the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
Fire department donates fire engine to Kiamichi Tech
The Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Department in Bryan County has donated a fire engine to Kiamichi Technology Centers.
PVFD decided to donate the surplus truck to the tech center to use for training. The department got the truck about 10 years ago from a fire department in Texas, and before that the truck was used by the U.S. Air Force, according to KTEN News.
“The training here is so important,” PVFD Chief Ron Parks told the news station. “We’re lucky to have it in our backyard. It enables our first responders to have better training and better response to a fire — and most importantly — safer.”

EOC Tech program visits OKC art museum
Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center recently took clients of its Adult Day Services to visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
EOC Tech Adult Day Services is a nonprofit program that provides daytime care for older adults who cannot stay safely alone at home or whose caregivers need to work or take respite time.
Once a quarter, staff members take clients to OKCMOA for its Making Memories program. The clients tour the museum and create their own art.
