Deadline this week for Oklahoma CareerTech Hall of Fame banquet tickets

The deadline to buy tickets for the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation Hall of Fame banquet is Sept. 12. The banquet, at which the foundation will honor six inductees, will be Oct. 3 at Oklahoma State University.

This year’s Oklahoma Career and Technology Education Hall of Fame inductees are Tom Friedemann, Randy Gilbert, Velta Reed-Johnston, Denise Morris, Joe Robinson and Jack Staats. Banquet tickets and sponsorships are available at https://form.jotform.com/241424586226154.

“Oklahoma is home to the best CareerTech system in the nation, and these six Hall of Fame honorees contributed much to the vision that has shaped career and technology education in Oklahoma,” said CareerTech State Director Brent Haken. “Each of these honorees played starring roles in the state’s journey to becoming the best in career and technology education. They have advanced the mission of CareerTech in unique and extraordinary ways.”

CV Tech superintendent on Woman of the Year list

Gayla Lutts, CEO/superintendent of Canadian Valley Technology Center, is one of more than 50 women who will be honored at The Journal Record Woman of the Year Gala.

The event will be Oct. 10 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

StateImpact Oklahoma examines CareerTech funding, waitlist

A recent StateImpact Oklahoma article looks at the one-time $26.7 million allocation from the state legislature to help CareerTech reduce a waitlist of about 7,500 students.

Tech centers recently received the funds and are using it for facility upgrades, expanded programming and more, but CareerTech needs recurring funds for instructional staff to continue to reduce the waitlist, State Director Brent Haken told the reporter.

The article also looks at how Central Technology Center is using its funds to expand a nursing program and a truck driver training program.

Great Plains Tech plans corporate training facility

Great Plains Technology Center plans to expand its economic development building to include a corporate training facility.

The tech center will expand training for its industry partners, including Goodyear and Bar-S, Superintendent Clarence Fortney told The Lawton Constitution.

The expansion will include shops, classroom and office spaces and a hardened room. Great Plains is looking at funding now, Fortney said.
