CareerTech director on Education Power List

The Journal Record has included Oklahoma CareerTech State Director Brent Haken on its 2024 Education Power List.

The people on the list, the newspaper wrote, are people who drove conversations about education in 2024.

Haken became the ninth state director of the Oklahoma Department of Career and

Technology Education in January 2023. Under his watch, CareerTech enrollments grew 6.5% in fiscal 2024, with a goal to increase systemwide enrollments another 15% by fiscal 2029.

 

 

2024-25 BISCP class kicks off training

The 2024-25 Business and Industry Services Certification Program class kicked off their training with 28 participants from 19 different technology centers.

Participants will visit four technology centers this year to learn more about Oklahoma CareerTech and to gain best practices through hands-on activities and industry tours.

The training, which is offered annually, is facilitated by Oklahoma CareerTech Regional Coordinators Lori Laufer and Patrick Clanin.

 

Oklahoma Veterans Film Competition opens

Oklahoma CareerTech and the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame are working together to offer a student competition to create short films about Oklahoma military veterans.

During the competition, which runs from Oct. 1 to Nov. 11, students across Oklahoma will work with veterans to film their military stories. The top three in high school and postsecondary categories will receive cash prizes.

Moore Norman Tech cuts ribbon on public safety training center

Moore Norman Technology Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony recently for its new indoor/outdoor public safety training facility.

The facility houses the tech center’s basic peace officer training and includes a CLEET approved firing range.
