Konawa Public School District voters approve Pontotoc Tech annexation
Residents of the Konawa Public School District voted Aug. 27 to approve annexation into the Pontotoc Technology Center district.
Unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board show that 53.83% of voters said yes to the annexation proposition, and 46.17% voted no.
“We are very excited for the community of Konawa to take advantage of the CareerTech system in its full potential,” said Brent Haken, Oklahoma CareerTech state director.
“We look forward to growing the workforce in their community with career programs provided by Pontotoc Technology Center.”

A chance meeting between Oklahoma CareerTech State Director Brent Haken and Mike Rowe, Emmy award-winning television host and bestselling author, resulted in an episode of Rowe’s podcast, “The Way I Heard It.”
Rowe, a leading advocate for the skilled trades, released the episode last week.
He was in Oklahoma to film materials for Oklahoma’s energy industry when he met Haken at Central Technology Center. Their conversation -- along with busloads of high school students arriving at Central Tech for classes -- led Rowe to invite Haken to talk on the podcast.
StateImpact Oklahoma highlights tech center work
A recent StateImpact Oklahoma story about recruiting long-term care certified nursing aides highlighted Tulsa Technology Center’s nursing transitions program for high school seniors.
The program allows the students to get CNA training and then transition into nursing classes. When students graduate from the program, they can apply for the licensed practical nursing bridge program, through which they can become LPNs in six months, according to the article.

Northeast Tech students see early career recruitment
Northeast Technology Center students studying in high-demand fields are being recruited for jobs before graduation, according to a story from KSNF-TV.
The TV station reports that students in fields like marine technology, medicine and heavy equipment operation are seeing more job recruitment. Administrators told the station that the job offers are because they are responsive to what employers are looking for.
