Oklahoma TSA brings home wins from national conference
Oklahoma Technology Student Association members brought home two membership awards, a national officer and more than 70 other awards from the National TSA Conference.
Oklahoma took 389 people to the conference in Orlando, Florida, where they competed against more than 9,000 students from across the country. They received two superlative membership awards: Most Middle School Chapters and Most Chapters Overall.
Lizzie Grounds, Broken Arrow High School, was elected national TSA treasurer, and three Oklahoma students received a Gold Achievement Award: Lovella Harjo, Dunbar Intermediate School, Okmulgee; Blake Jackson, Edmond Heartland Middle School; and Tommy O’Kelley, Roland High School.
Also, John Williams, Atoka High School, received a National Technical Honor Society TSA Scholarship.

CV Tech acquires Air Force jet
Canadian Valley Technology Center has acquired a recently decommissioned U.S. Air Force T-1A Jayhawk jet for its aviation maintenance technology program.
The jet, which will be used for a grounded student trainer, flew from Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, to C.E. Page Airport near Yukon and then was tethered for taxi to CV Tech’s El Reno campus.
The T-1A is the first jet to sit in CV Tech’s hangar. It joins another military aircraft, a single-prop T-28C that was donated a couple of years ago.

New CareerTech board member sworn in
Zachary “Zach” Archer was sworn in to the Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education at the board’s meeting last week in Stillwater.
He also serves on the State Board of Education and was appointed to the CareerTech board by the governor.
Archer was raised in Hammon, graduating from Hammon High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in finance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2001. He is a fifth-generation owner of land homesteaded by his great-great-grandfather in 1896 and is managing director at Great Plains Investment Services.
Members of the CareerTech board are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate.
KOCO puts STEM Spotlight on Meridian Tech
KOCO’s STEM Spotlight focused on Meridian Technology Center last week.
The news station talked to Oklahoma CareerTech State Director Brent Haken and to Debbie Short, STEM instructor at Meridian, about the tech center’s programs to give students the skills they need for the workforce.

Green Country Tech grad receives national scholarship
A Green Country Technology Center graduate and HOSA member recently received a $1,000 scholarship from the National Healthcareer Association.
Cheyanne Holman of Okmulgee plans to become a certified phlebotomy technician. She received the scholarship at the 2024 HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas.
