EOC Tech grad achieves dreams at SpaceX
Dreaming of space, Clayton Smith joined Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center’s newly established pre-engineering program when he was a senior at Choctaw High School.
Now Smith, who went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Oklahoma, has fulfilled his dreams as he works with rockets and satellites at SpaceX. In his job, he said, he sends satellites to space and finds ways to attach them on rockets to fly into space.
“Satellites come in all different shapes and sizes and I develop structures and mechanisms to launch and deploy the satellites,” he said.
He has launched 139 satellites into space since joining SpaceX two years ago.
