Oklahoma CareerTech funding aerospace maintenance curriculum
Oklahoma CareerTech programs in high schools and technology centers now have access to free aerospace curriculum.
The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education recently signed a contract with Choose Aerospace to provide curriculum. Choose Aerospace is a nonprofit organization of aerospace industry stakeholders and is managed by the Aviation Technician Education Council. The aviation curriculum is designed to place students on the path to FAA mechanic certification.
“At CareerTech, what we work off of is demand,” said Brent Haken, Oklahoma CareerTech state director. “We don’t create a supply of workforce; we create a workforce because of the demand that’s out there in the industry, and that’s why Oklahoma CareerTech is so strong, why we’ve been so nimble, and that’s what we’re doing in the aerospace industry.”

State representative highlights CareerTech
State Rep. John Talley, R-Stillwater, recently wrote about Oklahoma CareerTech and the work it does.
Talley wrote about how CareerTech’s technology centers create workforce solutions and contribute to economic development by training employees for new and existing business, offering customized training programs and partnering with industry.

Board members sworn in
Three Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education members were sworn in at the board’s June meeting. Pictured are, from left, State Director Brent Haken and board members Rob Seeman, Suzanne Reynolds and Kendra Wesson. Seeman is continuing his term, and Reynolds and Wesson represent the Oklahoma State Board of Education.
CareerTech hiring for several positions
Oklahoma CareerTech has several positions now open, including OkAPEX program manager, director of academic affairs and director of workforce training.
