Oklahomans honored for ‘Making It Work’

The Oklahoma Career and Technical Education Equity Council honored 17 Oklahomans and three businesses and organizations at the 29th annual Making It Work Day at the Capitol on March 6.

Making It Work Day recognizes nontraditional students and individuals who are committed to removing barriers to success for single-parent families by providing educational experiences for students beyond the classroom. The ceremony was held in the rotunda at the Oklahoma Capitol.

Northeast Tech facility on track to open in fall

A new Northeast Technology Center facility in Claremore is expected to open in the fall.

The tech center broke ground on the facility in September. The 17,000-square-foot building will house HVAC and criminal justice programs, Cassie Woods Howell, director of communications, told Fox 23 News in Tulsa.

The facility will include space for tactical and physical training for criminal justice students, along with a miniature jail with a cell, an interrogation room and a 911 call center, she said.

Episode 10 of Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell’s “A Look at Oklahoma CareerTech” focuses on Green Country Technology Center.

GCTC digital media graduate Anthony Nieto talks about how he discovered the possibility of a career in graphic design and communications at the tech center, where he now works at the marketing and communications coordinator.

ICTC students transform football field

Students at Indian Capital Technology Center’s Stilwell campus have, for the last 16 years, helped prepare the Stilwell High School football field before every home game.

A recent article in the Tahlequah Daily Press highlighted the students in ICTC’s service careers program and the work they do to prepare the field: helping lay out, mark and paint it.
