United Way of Payne County recognizes CareerTech

Oklahoma CareerTech was among the top 15 workplace campaigns, the United Way of Payne County announced recently at its annual meeting.

Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education employees raised more than $22,000 for the United Way during their two-week campaign in late October and early November.

Great Plains Tech starts leadership academy

Great Plains Technology Center is starting an Aspiring Leadership Foundational Academy, Superintendent Clarence Fortney writes in a column in The Lawton Constitution.

The group is exploring what prompts people to be leaders, and Fortney shared some of their responses in the column.

Newspaper highlights Indian Capital Tech instructor

The Muskogee Phoenix highlighted Indian Capital Technology Center cosmetology instructor Donna Simmons in its Education Spotlight column.

Simmons teaches the high school cosmetology program at Indian Capital. She has 31 years of experience as a cosmetologist and 15 years of experience as a master cosmetology instructor, she told the newspaper.

Her greatest accomplishment, seeing her students earn certification and obtain employment, is a reflection of Indian Capital’s vision to develop world-class leaders for the workplace, she said.

Autry Tech makes nurse aide program more flexible

Autry Technology Center’s flex format for its nurse aide program allows students to learn at their own pace.

The tech center initiated the format just before the pandemic lockdown, according to an article in the Enid News and Eagle. Students can complete the program in the traditional 12 weeks or as quickly as two to three weeks, which can help fill health care worker shortages.
