Russ Landon


Chief of Police Member

Russ is a 33 year veteran of law enforcement. He began his career in 1991 with the Village Police Department where he has served in patrol, investigations, as a field training officer, and as a defensive tactic’s instructor. He was quickly promoted through the ranks to Administrative Captain in 1998 where he led The VPD to become one of the first police departments to be fully accredited by the state Chief’s Association in 2001.  During this time, he implemented the Citizen’s Police Academy and led the department to be a top fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Landon is a 2002 graduate of the FBI National Academy (FBINA) in the 211th class in Quantico, VA. In 2004, he was selected as Officer of the Year by his peers. He was a member and Assistant Team Leader on the Oklahoma County multi-jurisdictional SWAT for eight years. He is a participant on the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).

In 2022, Landon became the 6th Chief of the Village Police Department. Law enforcement partnerships and community policing are highly valued by Landon. He has since broadened the emphasis on community policing with the return of the Citizens Police Academy, and reinstituting their support for Special Olympics. He participates in TRIAD – a collaborative effort of the county sheriff’s office, municipal law enforcement, and older adults - which he hosts at the VPD.

Landon serves on the Executive Board of the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police as the Central Region Representative (11 central counties). He is a regular attender of the Metro Chief’s, State Chief’s, and the FBINA monthly meetings.

Chief Landon holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Management and Administration, and a second master’s degree in Education/Adult Learning from the University of Central Oklahoma.  Landon also holds an Advanced Law Enforcement certificate. He has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 34 years.  Together they have two children, a son-in-law, and one grandchild. He attends Faith Bible Church.
