Doula Services

Beginning July 1, 2023, SoonerCare is excited to offer doula services to pregnant members.

A doula or birth worker is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support services during the prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum periods. Doulas are non-clinical and do not provide medical care. Doulas work with you to determine how best to utilize the benefit to meet your needs.

As a pregnant SoonerCare member receiving doula care, you will have:

  • 8 total doula visits during your pregnancy and during your postpartum period
  • Your doula present with you during labor/delivery

Referral Requirements

Doula services must be recommended by a physician or other licensed practitioner of the healing arts who is operating within the scope of their practice under State law.

The following providers may recommend doula services:

  • Obstetricians;
  • Certified Nurse Midwifes;
  • Physicians;
  • Physician Assistants; or
  • Certified Nurse Practitioners.

Choosing a Doula Provider

Visit our provider page for a list of doulas and doula agencies.

You may choose a doula provider of your choice as long as he/she is a SoonerCare contracted provider and their office is accepting new patients.

For questions regarding how to choose a provider please call the SoonerCare Helpline 1-800-987-7767.
