Making Impressions Count A Refresher Course for Law Enforcement

This event has passed.

Description

Making Impressions Count: A Refresher Course for Law Enforcement Cleet #24-2181 ******* Since 1953 the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Criminalistics Services Division (OSBI Laboratory) has provided a multitude of forensic science services to law enforcement agencies operating within Oklahoma. In an effort to continually support our law enforcement partners, the OSBI Laboratory is offering a free, in-person refresher training course about the OSBI Latent Evidence Unit for 6 hours of CLEET continuing education credit. This training is designed for new and seasoned officers. It includes information about the OSBI Latent Evidence Unit’s capabilities and limitations, including a review of what their laboratory reports mean, and discussion on proper evidence collection, packaging, and submission tips for latent evidence items. This course also includes practical, hands-on exercises for all participants to practice latent fingerprint processing techniques on different types of items with one-on-one guidance and assistance from qualified OSBI Latent Evidence Unit Criminalists. It is recommended that participants bring their own fingerprint kits, if available. Free fingerprint kits/supplies will also be provided, as needed, for any participants needing one and will be theirs to keep upon completion of this course. ******* Please note, at this time this training is only being held at the OSBI Forensic Science Center in Edmond, Oklahoma. Scholarships are available for participants that need assistance with travel accommodations through the Alaunna Raffield Fund, which was established by the OSBI in 2023 and dedicated to the memory of Alaunna Raffield. Its purpose is to assist local law enforcement partners with the cost of attending training facilitated by the OSBI. Each year, scholarship opportunities are provided to county and municipal law enforcement agencies for accredited training conducted by the OSBI, including but not limited to this training course. ******* Click on the OSBI Home page and scroll down to the Alaunna Raffield Fund link to download a copy of the scholarship application. Remember to complete the application and submit it to the regional OSBI Captain at least eight weeks before the training you’re applying for. Alaunna Raffield’s legacy lives on through this fund, supporting law enforcement professionals in their pursuit of knowledge and skills.
