Registered Sanitarian, Sanitarian-in-training, Environmental Health Specialist, or Environmental Health Specialist-in-training
You have expressed interest in becoming a Registered Professional Sanitarian (RPS), Registered Professional Environmental Specialist (RPES), Sanitarian-in-training (SIT), or Environmental Specialist-in-training (ESIT). To be eligible for registration, you must:
- Submit a correctly completed license application and $25.00 fee through the licensing portal.
- Submit an affidavit of lawful presence.
- Provide an official transcript from an accredited college or university demonstrating:
- Four-year baccalaureate degree with a major in public health, environmental health, environmental science, physical science, natural science, biological science, agricultural science, or an equivalent major
- A minimum of 30 semester hours in physical, natural, and biological sciences, public health and/or environmental health or environmental protection or both
- Provide evidence of two years postgraduate, full-time working experience in the fields of public health or environmental protection (RPS and RPES)*.
- Pass the required examination.
* Applicants who do not have the required experience but meet all other requirements may be granted a certification to be a sanitarian- or environmental specialist-in-training. In-training certificate holders have up to 30 months to complete experience requirements.
