Licensed Genetic Counselor

You have expressed interest in becoming a Licensed Genetic Counselor. To be eligible for a Genetic Counselor license, you must:

  • Submit an affidavit of lawful presence.
  • Submit to a background check.
  • Submit a correctly completed license application and $300.00 application fee.
  • Possess a master’s degree or higher from a genetic counseling training program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Genetics and Genomics (ABMG).
  • Have the ABGC or ABMG accredited program provide the Department with your official transcript.
  • Provide proof of passing score on the ABGC or ABMG examination.
  • Provide verification of certification by the ABGC or AGMG, or an equivalent entity. 
  • Provide references.
  • Provide information regarding proposed professional practice.
  • Provide information related to any previous misconduct (if applicable).
