CareerTech teacher salaries analyzed

The Tulsa World recently analyzed average pay for Oklahoma CareerTech instructors and compiled salaries in a searchable database.

Technology center instructor base salaries increased by almost 5% from 2023 to 2024, the newspaper reported. Tech center salaries are generally determined by the local boards. Raises were part of an education package manadated by the state legislature in 2023.

Pontotoc Tech receives federal funds

Pontotoc Technology Center in Ada has received $4.5 million in federal funds.

The money comes from the 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill.

Pontotoc Tech administrators said the money will help renovate and expand the health care wing and build a helipad.

Great Plains instructor named Chickasaw Nation Dynamic Woman of the Year

Nancy Howell, an emergency medical technician and firefighter instructor at Great Plains Technology Center, was recently named Chickasaw Nation Dynamic Woman of the Year.

Howell began teaching EMT training in 1992 and eight years later was instrumental in developing the EMT and firefighter course taught in Oklahoma’s technology centers. She also coordinates emergency service training for manufacturers in GPTC’s area.

Video showcases CTSO Day at the Capitol

Seventy-five Oklahoma CareerTech students gathered in February at the state Capitol to talk to legislators about how career and technology education helps students prepare for careers and college.

Leaders of CareerTech student organizations -- FFA, FCCLA, TSA, HOSA, BPA, SkillsUSA and DECA -- talked to lawmakers about their experiences.
