Altus Air Force Base

Altus AFB has been a part of the southwest Oklahoma landscape since 1943. The base currently houses KC-135 tankers, and the C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster cargo aircraft. During the early 1960s, the base also hosted 12 Atlas missile silos around the local area. Altus AFB operates under a corrective action permit with the DEQ to control offsite migration of solvent-contaminated groundwater.
