Free test support sessions are being offered by the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA).

U.S. Naturalization Test

Starting August 1, 2025, anyone applying for their initial Oklahoma teaching certification will be required to complete a U.S. Naturalization test. This does not apply to anyone certified before August 1st.  Individuals who are subject to this test will be sent the information upon receipt of their application.

Required Reading Assessment

The Foundations of Reading (FOR) assessment is now required for all individuals seeking standard certification in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Special Education.

Note: The ORT will remain available through EPPs until June 30th, 2026.

The Office of Educational Quality and Accountability (OEQA), a separate agency of state government, is authorized by law to develop and administer the competency-based teacher tests. Two assessments are currently required for Oklahoma teacher certification: a subject area test and the professional education assessment.

For information about which test to take, contact the Office of Teacher Certification. For test content information and registration, visit the websites below and contact the testing company directly for further information.
