Out-of-State Test Review

Steps for Out-of-State Test Comparability and Oklahoma Teaching Certification

If you are an out-of-state teacher looking to become certified in Oklahoma, follow the steps below to determine if your existing test qualifications meet Oklahoma's requirements and to apply for your teaching credential.

Step 1: Check Test Comparability

Visit the Out-of-State Test Comparability dashboard.

  • Search for your out-of-state teaching test.
  • If your test is listed and meets Oklahoma requirements: You can move forward with applying for your Oklahoma teaching certification at the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) (see Step 3).
  • If your test is listed and does not meet Oklahoma requirements: You will need to take the Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT) for your certificate.
  • If your test is not listed: Proceed to Step 2 for a comparability review.

Step 2: Contact OEQA for a Comparability Review

If your test is not found on the dashboard or is listed, contact us at info@oeqa.ok.gov.

  • Request a comparability review.
  • OEQA will provide guidance on the necessary documents and details.
  • Once OEQA receives all your materials, we will assess your test and inform you and the Teacher Certification Office if it’s acceptable.
    • Please note the review time may take up to 4 weeks.

Step 3: Apply for an Oklahoma Teaching Credential (OSDE)

You have two options to apply:

Option A: Online Application

  1. Create an account on the Oklahoma State Department of Education's online portal
  2. Complete the online application, uploading all required documents, including your out-of-state teaching credentials.

Option B: Paper Application

  1. Obtain a paper Application for Oklahoma School Certificate from the OSDE
  2. Fill out the application and submit it with your out-of-state teaching credentials.

Note: For the most current and accurate information, visit the Oklahoma State Department of Education's official website or contact their office directly.
