Oklahoma State Textbook Committee

The State Textbook Committee, appointed by the Governor, reviews and approves textbooks for Oklahoma schools. It includes educators, at-large members, and the State Superintendent or their appointee as chair. Most members are experienced classroom teachers serving three-year terms. The committee follows open meeting laws, meets as needed, elects a vice-chair annually, and receives administrative support from the State Department of Education. 70 O.S. § 16-101

Subject Cycle

The Textbook Committee annually prepares a list of available textbooks that meet the academic criteria for Oklahoma's public schools. Due to the time and attention this process requires, the Committee reviews one or more subjects each year:
