(Oklahoma City) – Friday was the voter registration deadline for the 2026 General Election. Records show that 1,906 people successfully submitted an electronic voter registration application via the OK Voter Portal’s Online Voter Registration System on October 9, the most of any single day in 2026.

Contrary to some reports, there were no issues with the Online Voter Registration System itself on Friday. However, the interface between the Online Voter Registration System and Service Oklahoma’s data experienced temporary communication issues for a couple of hours late that afternoon. Once the issue was identified, the matter was quickly resolved and nearly 800 applications – approximately 40% of the daily total – were then successfully submitted via the Online Voter Registration System.

“We appreciate our partners at Service Oklahoma and the Office of Management and Enterprise Services for their quick response in helping to resolve the issue,” Secretary of the State Election Board Paul Ziriax said. “We regret that there was a brief issue with the interface, but it appears to have had a minimal impact on voter registration applications. Literally, hundreds and hundreds of electronic applications were submitted after it was fixed.”

Ziriax noted that the communication interface issue should not be confused with applicant errors or other statutory restrictions. “There appears to be some conflation of routine user errors with the brief issue that occurred Friday with the communication interface. For example, a person contacted our office on Friday to report that her family member could not submit a voter registration application using the portal and attempted to blame it on the portal. However, it turned out that the applicant attempted to use a registration address that differed from the address on the applicant’s driver license, which is not permitted under state law. This is an example of an error on the part of the applicant and had nothing to do with the Online Voter Registration System,” Ziriax said. “Most of the contacts we had on Friday were about routine user errors like this, not about the brief issue with the communication interface.”

  1. Applicants must meet statutory requirements in order to submit a voter registration application using the Online Voter Registration System.  For example:
  2. Applicants must provide a current and valid Oklahoma driver license number or State ID number.
  3. The information on the identification card must match the information that is on file with Service Oklahoma – including the applicant’s name, birthdate, address and ID number.
  4. The applicant must also have a digital signature on file with Service Oklahoma.

As always, those who cannot meet the requirements may submit a paper Voter Registration Application in person or by mail to their County Election Board. Due to statutory requirements, the State Election Board recommends that applicants allow themselves plenty of time to register to vote or update their registration ahead of the deadline.

The State Election Board reminds Oklahomans that the Online Voter Registration System does not register individuals to vote. The system is one of several methods an individual may choose to submit a Voter Registration Application. All applications are required to be manually processed and approved by the individual’s County Election Board Secretary. Individuals are not registered to vote until their application has been processed and approved.
