(Oklahoma City) – The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the 2022 General Election is quickly approaching, the Secretary of the State Election Board said today. To receive an absentee ballot for the November 8 General Election, requests must be received by your County Election Board no later than 5 p.m., Monday, October 24. Under Oklahoma law, no excuse is needed to apply for an absentee ballot.

Voters can request an absentee ballot using the OK Voter Portal or by completing an absentee ballot application, which can be downloaded from the State Election Board website or obtained from your County Election Board.

An absentee ballot should be requested as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery. According to State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax, the U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing your voted ballot at least one week prior to Election Day. “Keep in mind the distance your absentee ballot will need to travel. Allow yourself plenty of time to receive your ballot, vote it, and return it to your County Election Board,” Ziriax said.

Voters must request and return their own ballots. It is against the law to request or return an absentee ballot on behalf of another person. More information about Oklahoma’s absentee ballot harvesting laws can be found on the State Election Board website.

“Standard” absentee ballots must be signed and notarized. “Physically incapacitated” absentee ballots must be signed and the signature must be witnessed by two people.

Voted ballots must be received by your County Election Board no later than 7 p.m. on election night. “Standard” absentee ballots may be hand-delivered to your County Election Board, but must be received no later than the end of business on the Monday prior to Election Day. Business hours vary from county to county.

More information about absentee voting can be found on the State Election Board website or by contacting your County Election Board or the State Election Board.
