What is the grant?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant allows the 50 states, the District of Columbia, 2 American Indian tribes, 5 US territories, and 3 freely associated states to address their own unique public health needs and challenges with innovative and community-driven methods.
The Block Grant is the primary source of non-categorical funding that provides grantees the latitude to fund any of the 350 national health objectives available in the nation’s Healthy People 2030 health improvement plan. States invest their PHHS Block Grant dollars in a variety of public health areas. PHHS Block Grant dollars are used to support existing programs, implement new programs, and respond to unexpected emergencies.
The Oklahoma State Health Department (OSDH) has been the prime recipient of Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant funding since 1986. OSDH is designated as the principal state agency for the allocation and administration of the PHHS Block Grant within the state of Oklahoma. OSDH and CHDs are eligible to apply for funding. Outside organizations can partner with OSDH and contract to receive PHHS Block Grant funds. The Fiscal Year 2023 Allocation for Oklahoma is $1,445,519. In May 2024, OSDH received the Fiscal Year 2024 Allocation table for Oklahoma. The amount allocated for Fiscal Year 2024 is $1,661,224
