National Birth Defects Awareness Month

January is National Birth Defects Awareness Month. While we cannot prevent all birth defects, we do know how to reduce the risk of some, including neural tube defects, congenital cytomegalovirus and congenital syphilis. When prevention is not possible and families are impacted by birth differences, early intervention and family support services are critical. Contact us at OBDR@health.ok.gov for more information about birth defects prevention or facilitation of family support services.

OBDB's Nurse Lexi was willing to share her family’s story to help increase awareness about birth defects and birth defects prevention. Watch Lexi's story.
