Medical Micropigmentation Training Programs, Exams & Instructors

Before applying and testing for a Medical Micropigmentation Certification, an applicant must first successfully complete an approved Oklahoma State Department of Health Medical Micropigmentation Training Program. All training programs must meet requirements as outlined in the Oklahoma Administrative Code (OAC) 310:234.

*Instructors may provide a web address that links applicants to a medical micropigmentation training website. Please note, the website must include a link or information specific to the medical micropigmentation training program to be included on the Department website. It is the responsibility of the instructor(s) to ensure the contact information is correct on this website.

Before applying for the exam an applicant must first complete an approved training course and submit an application to the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). Once the OSDH approves the application, the applicant will receive a letter with instructions to sign-up for the certification exam.

Once the applicant receives the letter, visit the CareerTech website and select “Med Mic/Tattoo/Body Piercing” on the left hand side of the screen to identify a testing center nearest you. You must contact your preferred testing center from the list to schedule a testing appointment. The testing center should advise you of their acceptable methods of payment at the time of scheduling.

The fee for the examination is $200.00. Payment must be made directly to the selected testing center to avoid any delays in the examination process. Please do NOT send payment to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Candidates who do not pass the test must wait seven (7) days before retesting; the fee for retesting, if required, is $75.00.

On your scheduled test day, you must present two documents to the scheduled testing center:

• The original exam certification letter from the Oklahoma State Department of Health documenting eligibility to test.
• An unexpired driver’s license or other photo identification issued by a U.S. government entity.

NOTE: Testing will be refused if both documents are not presented.

An instructor must be an Oklahoma-certified Medical Micropigmentologist who has performed procedures for three years. Procedures must include:

• eye procedures
• full lip procedures
• eye brow procedures

All medical micropigmentation procedures must be performed in a licensed physician’s office.

To become an instructor, please submit:

• A complete instructor application form
• Proposed Training Curriculum

The proposed training curriculum must demonstrate/include the following:

• List of key skills/information that will be taught and the sequence (incorporating the skills area requirements outlined in OAC 310:234-3-4)
• Time devoted to each skills area outlined above
• The type of teaching method(s) for each skills area
• The assessment component used and passing scores
