Hosting an Electronic Voter Registration Drive
Hosting an electronic voter registration drive is easy and convenient – requiring minimal supplies and preparation. It’s a great option for universities, schools or any organization. Online voter registration ensures that an applicant’s personal information is submitted securely in real time. Electronic applications also eliminate errors caused by illegible applications and can be processed more quickly. Additionally, a unique transaction number allows applicants to confirm the status of their application by contacting their County Election Board after the registration drive.
How It Works
An electronic voter registration drive allows individuals to complete and submit the Oklahoma Voter Registration Application online using a desktop or mobile device.
Applicants must have the following:
- A current and valid Oklahoma Driver License or State ID, and (The address on the identification card must match the address used for registration.)
- A digital signature on file with Service Oklahoma.
Eligible applicants without the required information can still fill out the Oklahoma Voter Registration Application online using the OK Voter Portal; however, they cannot submit the application electronically. Applications filled out using the “wizard” must be printed, signed, and mailed or hand delivered to the appropriate County Election Board or the State Election Board OR the applicant can email the application to themselves to review, print, sign, date, and submit at a later date.
Preparing Your Event
No approval is required to host an electronic voter registration drive; however, some preparation is needed to host a successful event. An electronic voter registration drive can be organized in three easy steps.
Steps for organizing your event:
- Recruit volunteers and provide them with a copy of Legal Responsibilities.
- Download and print our Register Online to Vote flyer and create a “voter registration station” desk or table. (Feel free to use decorations to draw attention to your voter registration drive.)
- Promote your event!
RECOMMENDED: You may want to assist those who are unable to submit their registration online by having paper applications and blue or black pens available. Oklahoma Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded and printed from the State Election Board website.
Voter Registration Applications
As the voter registration host, you may assist applicants by:
- Reading or explaining the requirements of the application (See Legal Responsibilities);
- Collecting printed and signed applications to submit to the State Election Board or County Election Board immediately following the voter registration drive; and/or
- Offering envelopes and/or stamps for applicants to mail applications to the Election Board themselves. (See 26 O.S. § 16-106.)
TIP: By allowing applicants to mail applications themselves, you eliminate your organization’s responsibility for ensuring the applicant’s information remains secure and that the application is delivered to the Election Board by the voter registration deadline.
