Driver's Education

In collaboration with Service Oklahoma, certified endorsed teachers may instruct driver education elective courses through the public school districts.  State revolving fund offers a reimbursement for students who complete and pass a qualified public school driver education course.

Driver Education Prior Year Reimbursement applications are due Tuesday, September 1st.

Please review the guidelines below to ensure everything is submitted correctly:

• The application form for prior year reimbursement is available below.
• For the Student Roster:
– If your program is no longer using Enrollment/Completion (Green) Cards, please type “Certificate” or leave the “Enrollment Card Id#” column blank.
– Every column on the roster must be completed.
– The driver education instructor must sign each roster.
• If any sessions listed on your approved Instructor Certification, Assurances and Permit (ICAP) were NOT held, please note that clearly.

Completed applications should be emailed to state.aid@sde.ok.gov.

House Bill 1715 was signed into law April 26, 2021, by Governor Kevin Stitt, effective immediately. 

• Section1: Repeals the requirement that any person under the age of 18 demonstrate satisfactory reading ability at the 8th grade reading level, using the ELA statewide student assessment or any alternative reading proficiency test in order to apply for a driver license or permit.
• Section 2: Repeals the requirement that any person under the age of 18 provide proof of school enrollment, or documentation excusing them from this requirement, and proof of successfully passing the 8th grade reading test in order to receive a driver license or permit. 

House Bill 2102 known as the "Hope Shaffer Act", was signed into law April 24, 2024, by Governor Kevin Stitt, effective August 28th, 2024.   

Section 2 Part B:The parent or legal guardian of a student driver may sign a waiver which would allow the student driver to ride as a passenger in a motor vehicle that is being operated by another student driver.
