State Treasurer: Attorney General Not Fulfilling Role as Legal Counsel

Wednesday, May 06, 2026

State Treasurer Todd Russ released the following statement regarding recent actions by the Office of the Attorney General:

By law, the Office of the Attorney General serves as legal counsel to the Treasurer’s Office, which staffs the Invest in Oklahoma Board. If AG Drummond had concerns about the legality of the 311 Capital Management selection, he could have raised them at any time directly with the Treasurer’s Office and his client, the Invest in Oklahoma Board. Instead, he chose to bypass the ordinary attorney-client privilege and air a grievance publicly. That is not a serious attempt to resolve a legal issue, and it is not up to the standard expected of an attorney representing a client. The State would be better served by an Attorney General who prioritizes providing independent, competent legal counsel over creating unnecessary political drama to generate campaign headlines.
