There are a variety of fees that may need to be collected when registering a vehicle or boat. Below are some examples of what you can expect to pay and some examples of exemptions that may be available.

Excise Tax Exemptions
| Excise Tax Exempt Type | Explanation of Exemption |
| 100% Disabled Veterans | You will need to show a copy of your 100% DAV sales tax exemption card or the letter from the VA with the raised seal. The exemption only applies to 1 vehicle purchased every 3 years from the date of purchase (ie, Sept 3rd 2020 - Sept 3rd 2023). |
| Family Transfer | You must complete form 794 - Family Affidavit. Family transfers only apply to transferring between parents and children or between spouses. This does not apply to siblings, grandparents, etc. The vehicle being transferred must be gifted, cannot be sold. |
| Dropping a name from a title | This exemption only applies to dropping a name from a title. Excise tax is due when adding a name to a title, unless exempt for some other reason (family, etc.) |
| Trusts | The trust exemption only applies to transferring between trust and trustee. You must provide a copy of the trust showing that you are a trustee. |
| Divorce | The divorce exemption applies to transferring ownership to either former spouse due to a divorce. You must provide a copy of divorce decree where vehicle is issued to one spouse by name. Divorce decree must include VIN of vehicle. |
